NUPSAW: Ongoing power cuts putting workers' jobs at risk
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
Trade union NUPSAW says the non-stop Eskom blackouts are worsening the conditions of the working class.
This after the power giant again placed the country under stage 6 load shedding this week, depriving the workforce of six hours of productivity.
The union's Robinson Nqola says this is particularly damaging to workers who are paid for as per the hours they put in.
He says the power crisis has far-reaching impacts on small and medium-sized businesses.

"If you look across the world, SMMEs are the ones that are creating more jobs whilst government and big businesses are shedding jobs.
"But now, when you are facing a situation that we are facing today, that hope is truly shattered because the impact of these ongoing blackouts is really affecting small businesses.
"You have a number of businesses that are being forced to shut down as a result of these ongoing power cuts and it is really sad because it doesn't only affect their livelihoods and those in their surroundings, but it also affects workers, some of whom are our members."
