NUMSA: SAA wages not only battle won
Updated | By Sandile Zikhali
Trade union NUMSA says the 8% wage increase SAA workers secured after a week-long strike, was not the only battle they won
The union says they managed to convince the national carrier to postpone its retrenchment plans that could hae resulted in over 900 job losses. NUMSA says during negotiations mediated by the CCMA they managed to delay the proposal.
The union's Phakamile Hlubi-Majola says they have achieved an immediate goal of putting retrenchments on ice.
"We have successfully negotiated for the Section 189 process, served on members, to be postponed to the end of January", she said.
"We told SAA they are out of their minds as there was no consultation process either. So this buys us time to prepare for this process they want to impose", Hlubi-Majola said.
