NUMSA calls on taxi industry to find driver who fled a road rage scene

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA)
has urged the taxi industry to assist police in their pursuit of a taxi driver
who allegedly assaulted veteran jazz musician Mam' Abigail Kubeka last week.

The 74-year-old was allegedly assaulted following a motor vehicle collision with a taxi driver in Orlando in Soweto.
NUMSA spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, says the perpetrator should be brought to justice.
"The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa condemns in the strongest terms the actions of a taxi driver, who allegedly beat up veteran jazz musician, Mam' Abigail Kubeka."
"According to media reports, the police have identified the alleged culprit. We, as NUMSA, are urging them to track down the perpetrator and to arrest him as soon as possible," says Hlubi-Majola.
She adds the union is also upset about the headline by the Daily Sun newspaper about the incident and regard it as deeply offensive and inappropriate.
"The paper is deeply insensitive to the scourge of Gender Based Violence and it is insulting to all victims. The headline trivializes the violence and the brutality which was meted out against Mam Abigail," says Hlubi-Majola.
