NUMSA and Hulamin reach agreement on employee salaries

Metalworkers' union NUMSA has agreed on a deal with a Maritzburg-based aluminum supplier and exporter after a weeks-long battle with the employer overpay.

Hulamin will be paying workers in full for the duration of the lockdown. 


Two employees tested positive for COVID-19 last month - which led to the Edendale site being shut for decontamination. 


Employees were told they won't receive salaries during that time.

NUMSA’s Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, "Our officials worked really hard to secure this agreement which speaks to how workers will be paid during the lockdown.
