Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The number of KwaZulu-Natal schools and education offices that have been looted and vandalised now stands at more than 50.

The provincial education department says the figure is growing daily as they continue with assessments in the aftermath of the rioting.
KZN Education spokesperson, Muzi Mahlambi says two circuit offices and two education centres were also hit during the violence.

He says the destruction has left a lot of uncertainty about whether schools will be able to reopen next week.
"The schools that were looted, damaged and torched - we can confirm the number of 54 institutions. We have not been able to quantify that in terms of monetary damage.
"But as schools are going to be opening, we find it where some of the schools will not be able to operate. We shall have to provide them with mobile classrooms, which is going to be very difficult."
