Eskom board must go: NUM
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) has urged the remaining Eskom board members to follow the example of its former chairperson, Ben Ngubani, and resign.
Reports emerged over the weekend that Ngubani resigned due to unhappiness over the choice of an acting CEO to replace Brian Molefe.
The NUM's Livhuwani Mammburu says a judicial commission of inquiry is needed to resolve the crisis at Eskom.
"Some of the issues that need to be investigated are; the R1 million nepotism deal as well as the decision to close at least 5 power station without consulting unions.
"We also want the appointment and re-appointment of Brian Molefe as the CEO of Eskom to be investigated and the judicial commission of inquiry is the way it should be investigated," he says.
The union says workers have "lost confidence" in the board.
"Those who are left behind must follow him. Our members have lost confidence in them. We are worried that important decisions are being taken at Eskom without the consultation of the NUM," Mammburu says.
