NSFAS student receives R14 million deposit

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme has demanded an explanation from Walter Sisulu University after it confirmed that a student received a R14 million deposit.

The matter came to light when the student's receipt was posted on social media.

WSU Spokeswomen Yonela Tukwayo says the university has requested forensic investigators to get involved.
Tukwayo says a third party (service provider) is responsible for loading money to students on a monthly basis.
The financial aid scheme's Kagisho Mamabolo says they have written the university to explain and establish the facts of the matter.
"NSFAS would like to understand how this occurred and what the university's plan is to correct this. The university is responsible for making these payments to the student," Mamabolo said.
