NPA won't challenge Duduzane Zuma acquittal
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The National Prosecuting Authority says it won't be appealing Duduzane Zuma's acquittal on charges of culpable homicide and negligent driving - relating to a fatal 2014 crash.
The Randburg Magistrate's Court today ruled that the State couldn't prove Zuma's guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
Zuma's Porsche aquaplaned on a highway in Johannesburg on a rainy night - and crashed into a loaded taxi.
Taxi passenger, Phumzile Dube was killed.
During the trial - the court heard Zuma's car hit a puddle and aquaplaned.
In his judgement - Magistrate Tebogo Thupaatlase said Zuma couldn't have known the car wouldn't perform well on wet roads.
"I have spoken to the prosecutor who prosecuted the matter and he is of the view that this is a fair judgement. Basically, the court rejected the testimony by the state witness. At the end of the day, justice seeks to uncover the truth.
"We believe that has been achieved. What we can do is commend the nature of work placed behind this case," NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwane said.
