NPA welcomes sentence imposed on Dalton rapist
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The National Prosecuting Authority hopes the sentence handed down to a woman convicted of rape will help deter other would-be offenders.

The Pietermaritzburg Regional Court sentenced the 30-year-old to 10 years yesterday.
She was convicted of raping a teenage boy in the Dalton area three-years-ago.

The boy who was 13 at the time, had been returning the women's cellphone to her house when she forced herself on him.
Magistrate Sibusiso Mngomezulu ruled that the seriousness of the offence warranted a sentence of direct imprisonment.
The NPA's Natasha Ramkisson-Kara says rape offenders will continue to receive harsh sentences.
"We welcome the sentence purely because we want to show that offenders, when it comes to sexual offences particularly, they all receive the same sentence.
"We do not discriminate whether its a male accused or a female accused, rape especially to minors and young children is viewed by the court in a very serious light and the sentence meted out will be as serious," she said.
