NPA slams killing of Pietermaritzburg prosecutor

The National Prosecuting Authority has condemned the killing of a Pietermaritzburg Regional Court prosecutor.
Lonwabo Booi was shot on Wednesday outside the Umlazi Magistrate's Court.
"It’s an attack on the rule of law, it's an attack on the officials who uphold justice and make sure the court functions properly," says the NPA's Isaac Dhludhlu.
Dhludhlu says the 36-year-old was due to finalise a part-head matter. Police are still searching for Booi's killers.
"This kind of attack cannot be tolerated we appeal to the law enforcement, detectives and investigators to get to the bottom of this and bring those who committed the heinous crime to be brought to justice. And for the family to get closure.

The Director of Public Prosecutions in KwaZulu-Natal Elaine Zungu says the killing of Booi’s while on duty is a tragic event that must be taken very seriously by all South Africans.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Mr Booi and he will be dearly missed.”
The NDPP has assured all prosecutors that their safety remains an utmost priority for the NPA.
Additional security measures will be implemented on a case-by-case basis as the need arises.
