A woman who had been accused of trying to abduct a young child at a shopping centre in Pietermaritzburg has been released and the case withdrawn.

The four-year-old girl was allegedly grabbed inside the Liberty Midlands Mall last week Sunday while with her parents.
The child's father told police he ran after the suspect and caught her, before taking his daughter back.
Police were called and the 25-year-old woman was arrested.

The mall also confirmed the incident but said the intention of the suspect was unknown.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says the woman's bail application had been due to be heard in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
"When the video evidence was compared to the evidence contained in the docket, the State decided that the charge preferred against the accused cannot be sustained. It is for this reason that the charge against the accused was withdrawn."
