Petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin will all cost more from Wednesday.

The Department of Energy has announced that the price for both grades of petrol will be hiked up by 81 cents a litre.

Diesel will go up between 72 and 74 cents a litre.

Illuminating paraffin will cost 42 cents more.

"The average international product prices for petrol, diesel increased whilst illuminating paraffin decreased during the period under review,” the department said.

“The rand depreciated against the US Dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period.

"The average rand/US Dollar exchange rate for the period 28 October 2021 to 25 November 2021 was 15.3891 compared to 14.8175 during the previous period. This led to a higher contribution to the Basic Fuel Prices on petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 35.34 c/l, 34.44 c/l and 34.11 c/l, respectively.”

It comes as consumers are still reeling from this month's price adjustments - which saw the prices for petrol, diesel and paraffin increase by more than a rand each for a litre.
