Several women and children have been killed in the last few weeks, most of them in Gauteng.

Government has condemned the killings, with President Jacob Zuma saying "something has gone wrong in South Africa".

The #NotInMyName movement is organised by men who say they will not accept violence against the country's most vulnerable citizens.

"The march here is only the beginning of rolling action we are going to be taking in terms of going to schools, going to churches, holding community conferences under the #NotInMyName banner and be able to speak to one another, especially men to say why and what the solution is going forward," says one organiser.

March organiser Kholofelo Masha says the focus needs to be on the abuser, and not the abused.

"When we stop the perpetrator of the crime, the crime will not exist anymore. We can't build high walls when the thieves are building longer ladders," says Masha.
