Northdene water outages hit pensioners hard
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
As water supply outages hit Queensburgh's
Northdene area again, a resident says pensioners are among the worst affected.
The man told Newswatch his taps ran dry a week ago.
"It's very hard for us pensioners to get to collection points. The containers are heavy. We are unable to wash ourselves, bath or shower, we can't flush toilets, it's disastrous."
Some communities have been without water for two weeks due to low reservoir levels reported in March.
eThekwini promised to alleviate the problem, with a contractor recently beginning work on repairs on the Southern Aqueduct main pipeline.

Michelle Frazer, who also lives in the area, has meanwhile questioned the quality of the water being supplied by tankers.
"Some of the people in the area have been reporting that they have been getting gastro from the tanker water they say that is has a smell and it's not safe to drink. It is quite concerning because we don't have water coming out of the taps."
