No word from govt on MISA joining fuel price review
Updated | By Eva Chipa
The Motor Industry Staff Association (MISA) says they have
not received a response from the government on their request to join the price
methodology review.
This comes as South Africans just experienced a sharp increase in fuel prices with fears looming that another price hike may come in April due to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
On Sunday spokesperson for MISA, Sonja Carstens, said they are concerned about the drastic increases in fuel.
“MISA is very concerned about the turmoil and rapid
escalation of the fuel price, further price hikes will have a devastating
impact on MISA as nearly 53 000 members are dependent on motor vehicle component
sales, vehicle services and repair work in the motor retail industry.”

Carstens says they asked Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Gwede Mantashe to include the union in governments review of the pricing methodology for petrol.
However, so far Carstens says there has been no response from government to date.
She adds that joining the review is important as fuel increases has a major
impact on the citizens
“Increases in the fuel price have a direct impact on the cost of living for each and every South African household and the consumer chain in general."
