No tolerance for illegal mining: Minister
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane says illegal mining activities are putting a further strain on the country's economy.
Zwane met with community members in Umzumbe on the south coast where illegal sand mining has been taking place.
He says mining must be done in the correct manner with the required permits.
"We are saying to our people come and enjoy the benefits of your economy, we will help you but let us do it in the correct way. Anybody that is going to be found mining illegally, we are going to be harsh on them because they know it is wrong.
"We have engaged the community, we are agreeing that let's follow the correct procedures. We will put our foot down and ensure that we follow the correct procedures," he said.
