No relief for drought stricken areas

Some of the municipalities worst hit by the drought in KwaZulu-Natal say the downpours that saw severe flooding in parts of Durban at the weekend had little or no impact on their water supply.

Umkhanyakude spokesperson Mduduzi Dlamini says they received only a drop in the ocean compared to Durban.
"At Mtubatuba we did receive rains and at least all the rivers are full. Part of Jozini where we have Jozini Dam, it never rained," he said.

Ulundi in the Zululand District recorded no rainfall. Residents there are praying for rain.
Umhlathuze's Mdu Ncalane says several days of rain would have more impact, but they're grateful for what they did receive.
"By the physical look of the rivers and streams it's very promising. We think that it has made a lot of impact in the agriculture sector and the amount of water that we have," he said.
Officials are urging Durban residents to use water sparingly as the rain had very little impact on dam levels.
