No loadshedding expected despite fire at Mpumalanga power station

Eskom's alerted to us to our constrained power system again.

The utility says it's not under severe pressure, as the demand for electricity has dropped with the holidays now underway and some of its generating units returning to service.  


It says it doesn't expect to implement load shedding today, despite a fire at its Majuba Power Station in Mpumalanga.

The blaze broke out at the conveyor belt system from the rail offloading facility yesterday afternoon, sending thick columns of black smoke into the sky.


Eskom says there were no injuries and the fire was put out. It does impact on coal delivery to Majuba which currently has stock to last more than 50 days.
