KZN Health says there were no interruptions at any of its health facilities and government mortuaries during the national shutdown on Monday.
All employees of the department reported for work with the entrances and roads leading to work also clear.
Emergency services were also working smoothly as they remained on standby to help communities as per norm.
Head of Department Sandile Tshabalala they are grateful that no worker was absent due to threats or intimidation.
"We would like to thank all the employees of the Department of Health who braved and sacrificed and came to work. It is because of them that our facilities are functional. It is because of them that our facilities are able to give the services that we purport to give the people of our province."
