No applications for special votes after Friday deadline, warns IEC

South Africans hoping to cast special votes in the general election are being reminded the deadline to apply is Friday.

Applications must be submitted online, via SMS, or at local IEC offices.
Special voting will occur on 27 and 28 May from 9 am to 5 pm.

Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo says no late applications will be accepted.
“Everybody who is unable to be at their station on election day can apply for a special vote, and it’s important that we emphasise that it is not based on age.
“People who may be visited at their homes must be persons who are infirm and people who have impaired mobility.”
