The bulk of KZN's budget has been allocated to education, health and social development.

Nkonyeni said the Department of Education will use its budget for the maintenance and rehabilitation of schools, including repairs for storm damage.

"The total infrastructure budget over the MTF period is R17.1 billion, R17.3 billion and R17,4 billion, showing our ongoing commitment to prioritising infrastructure development."

An additional R4.1 million will go towards Arts and Culture to construct a monument in honour of the 1860 arrival of indentured labourers from India.

The monument will be erected on Durban's uShaka Marine promenade.

"Sports, Arts and Culture - these funds were recalled to the provincial revenue fund a number of years ago when this project was showing little progress. The department reports that this project will completed in 2024/25 and is anticipated to take seven to eight months to complete."
