Nkandla repayment plan will be transparent: Gordhan
Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says Treasury will set up a team to determine how much President Jacob Zuma should pay back for the non-security upgrades at his private home in Nkandla.
Gordhan was speaking during a media briefing by the SA Revenue Service on the preliminary outcomes of revenue collection for the 2015/2016 fiscal year.
Treasury's been given 60 days to report back to the Constitutional Court on the amount to be paid back. Gordhan says the process of calculating the costs will be thorough and governed by the law.
"We will do our job to the best of our ability and make sure that it's done in a transparent and technically correct way.
"We will be looking at all of the documents that are relevant to our task given to us by the Constitutional Court and try to execute that work as quickly as possible," he said.

Gordhan says yesterday's ruling showed that the country has a resilient democracy.
"One of the lessons that South Africa is learning at the moment is the importance of functional well-run, credible institutions because institutions matter and the Constitutional Court yesterday demonstrated that for us.
"What we thought was a paper document called the Constitution actually has force and effect in a constitutional state and holds all of us to account," he said.
