Nine suspects killed in police shootout in Mariannhill

Nine suspects were killed during a shootout with police at Desai near Mariannhill in KwaZulu-Natal in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said they pounced on a group of eleven suspects who have been terrorising the residents of Mariannhill and the surrounding areas.
He says the suspects were also sought in connection with a case of rape of a young girl during a house robbery.
Netshiunda added that a manhunt for the outstanding two suspects is underway.
"The suspects were also sought in connection with a case of rape where they allegedly gang-raped a girl and made her mother watch the ordeal during a house robbery. They were also on the police's radar for serious and violent crimes in the area.
"Three firearms have so far been found in possession of the suspects, and a search is still ongoing. A manhunt for outstanding two suspects is underway."
