Nine students arrested during violent protests at Mangosuthu University of Technology, will appear in the Umlazi Magistrates Court today.
It is understood that about 100 students gathered at the entrance of the university, protesting outside the university, singing andchanting. They also blocked off the entrance of the campus with burning tyres and rocks.
Police say rubber bullets and stun grenades were fired into the crowd.
Meanwhile MUT management were locked in a meeting with the SRC yesterday to try and resolve some of the issues students have raised that include problems with registration, non-payment of allowances and learning material, extension of the library and clinic hours and for our fee increment to be reversed.
The outcome of the meeting will be released today.
