Nine arrested for murder of SAPS female constable
Nine people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a police constable in Ladysmith.
35 year-old Thandekile Promise Sikhakhane offered a lift to two women hitchhiking in Ezakheni. The incident took place last Tuesday.
KZN police spokesperson Jay Naicker says as they approached the home of one of the women gunmen opened fire on the vehicle.
"The suspects also stole her firearm and robbed the passengers of their wallets and cellphones", he said.
"We arrested the first suspect who was found in possession of the officer's firearm and last night a further 8 were arrested with suspected murder weapon seized", Naicker said.
"Police also seized six cellphones and the men aged between 19 and 44 will be charged with armed robbery, murder, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition as well possession of suspected stolen property", Naicker said.
He says the suspects will appear in court this week.
