Nike's Colin Kaepernick campaign 'a bold move'

Nike's decision to feature former NFL player, Colin Kaepernick in its recent advertising campaign to mark its 30th anniversary has been described as a bold move by a local marketing expert.

Kaepernick sparked controversy in 2016 for kneeling during the American national anthem before football games - in protest against what he believed to be racial injustices against African Americans.

He's since remained a free agent - and has the National Football League to court over keeping him unsigned.

South African marketing guru - Groovin Nchabeleng says the shoe and sportswear giant's decision to feature Kaepernick has a very significant message.

"It all depends on how the advert has touched you. We have seen a number of celebrities, including Serena Williams, endorse the campaign and say it's high time the racial issue from the American point of view needs to be in the public domain and see that black lives matter," Nchabaleng said.
