''Definitely, we will go and campaign for the NFP to participate and go to the next level.

You know as I highlighted, we are the fifth biggest party in South Africa therefore we cannot allow this thing to happen because it is not that the members did not make sure that the deadlines were met but a few individuals that have done that,'' he said.

The NFP was disqualified by the Independent Electoral Commission after it missed a deadline at the beginning of June to pay a deposit to secure its participation in the municipal elections.

The NFP has since approached the Electoral Court hoping it will overturn the IEC's decision.

Speaking at the Gugu Dlamini Park in Durban where members gathered today over the developments, Mlotshwa said they are hopeful.

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters and the DA have come out in support of the NFP, with the EFF saying not allowing the party to contest the local government elections will infringe on voters' constitutional rights to vote for the party of their choice.

The DA says it support the NFP's court action but at the same they had agreed to the elections regulations before the poll.
