This after protestors wearing NFP T-shirts blocked the R66 turn-off from the R34 to Ulundi in northern KZN with burning tyres yesterday.

Police had to fire rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. 28 people were arrested.

The NFP yesterday submitted papers to the Constitutional Court asking for the IEC's decision to disqualify it from the local government elections be overturned.

KZN spokesperson Sabelo Sigudu says they're confident they'll be able to contest to polls on August 3.

"We believe that justice will be done and the court will be in favour of us. Our members are angry, not only at Ulundi, but throughout the country by the IEC's decision. We have calmed our members and spoken to them and we are glad they are out now," he said.

The arrested members were released on a warning last night. They're due to appear in court next month.
