Newlands' homeless head for community hall
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
About a hundred community members of Newlands East in Durban North have taken their belongings and headed to squat at the community hall, as they have no homes.

This weekend concerned members met with management of the municipality to voice their concerns about those without shelter, including newborn babies.
Chairperson of the Redevelopment Portfolio Committee, Neville Campbell says that the squatters never had homes and cannot afford their own so they need assistance from the municipality.
"Safety, security and a shelter over their head in an environment where they are not threatened by landlords and where they can actually raise their children. I mean just a happy house that's all they asking for, a happy home," he said.
