UPDATE: Newborn baby's body found near Ballito, mom arrested

The mother of a newborn baby, who was found dead in a pit toilet at Shaka's Head near Ballito, has been arrested.
Paramedics and members of the Umhlali K9 unit recovered the body of the infant from a pit toilet.
IPSS Medical Rescue's, Paul Herbst says they were informed by members of the public that a baby was in the latrine.

Herbst says the mother of the baby was not on the scene but police were then informed of her whereabouts.
"At this stage, we're not exactly sure how the baby landed up in the latrine. Unfortunately, the mom was not around. Police were on scene and will be doing further investigations," he said.
Police spokesperson, Nqobile Gwala says the 20-year-old mother has since been apprehended by police.
"The suspect was apprehended by members of the community - and placed under arrest. A case of concealment of birth was opened and she will appear in court soon," she said.
