Baby found abandoned under Pietermaritzburg bridge

Police have opened a case of child abandonment after a newborn baby boy was found abandoned under the Duzi bridge in Pietermaritzburg.
Emergency officials say he was found by security guards.
ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring says the little boy is being treated in hospital.

"ER24 paramedics were called to the scene after three members from B-Secure Security found the child under the bridge. Upon our arrival, we found the security members warming the child. We immediately assessed the patient and found that he had escaped injuries but he was suffering from mild hypothermia," he says.
Paramedics gradually warmed the child before transporting him to Edendale Hospital.
