Newborn baby found near river in Isithebe

Sundumbili SAPS, north of KwaZulu-Natal, have arrested a 27-year-old woman for attempted murder and concealment of birth.

This after a newborn baby was abounded in the bushes of the Isithebe area on Sunday morning.
IPSS's Paul Herbst who reported to a call for a tiny infant, says the baby was found next to a river.
"The newborn was still attached to the placenta uncovered and severely hypothermic. The newborn baby was stabilised on the scene by paramedics before being transported for urgent care at a nearby hospital," he says.

Hours later, Nyoni police were able to track down a woman who the community suspects to have given birth to the baby.
"When she was interrogated she denied any knowledge of the child," says KZN police spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele.
"She was then taken to the clinic, where it was confirmed that she had given birth a few hours ago.
"A case of attempted murder, as well as concealment of birth, was opened and the suspect, 27-years-old, was arrested. She'll be appearing in court soon."
