Updated | By Noxolo Miya
A truck safety programme has been launched in an effort to reduce crashes caused by driver fatigue.
The Department of Transport has teamed up with safety and wellness group SaferStops Association to roll out the plan.
The department says freight industry safety is a concern, adding that driver fatigue is a contributing factor to a large number of truck-related incidents.

The association's Nicci Anderson has encouraged industry players to get involved.
"Our truck drivers play a pivotal role in our economy in ensuring a smooth flow across the country. By addressing their needs, we can improve road safety, driver wellbeing and the efficiency of supply chains.
"We urge the industry to show their support and to register their drivers."
