New record daily infections as SA’s Covid-19 recovery rate drops below 80%

South Africa recorded a new infection record with 21 980 new positive cases in the last 24-hour cycle.

There's also been 616 more coronavirus related deaths.

72 of those fatalities were from KZN.

Now our province remains the epicentre of the virus, with more than 85 000 active cases.


In the latest report by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, the country’s recovery rate sunk to 79.5 per cent. 

Recoveries have been steadily declining for several days now, putting the number of people who have been cleared of the virus at 947 919. 

Statistics show the greatest recoveries in Gauteng, followed by the Western Cape. 

Both provinces are also among the top 3 regions with the highest active cases – KwaZulu-Natal taking the lead.
