Newly elected Democratic Alliance (DA) leader in KZN Francois Rodgers has hit out at critics who say there's no diversity in the party's new crop of the party provincial leaders.

The DA held its provincial elective conference this past weekend.

Rodgers says he was elected by a diverse group of delegates and his victory was fair and square.

"Our congress was a democratic process. We had 520 delegates of which the majority - in fact, 60 per cent are isiZulu speaking delegates and at the end of the day, this was their democratic right to choose who they thought would be effective leadership, so it wouldn't be right for me to now criticise the delegates in their decision and their chose.

Speaking on his plans as the new leader, he says the most important thing as he takes over is to address challenges and failures in service delivery, especially in eThekwini and Msunduzi municipality.

"Things are not improving, in fact, they are deteriorating to the point of where the capital city of our province is just a cesspool of litter and fails service delivery when it comes to water, sanitation and electricity and failed road infrastructure.

"We put together a manifesto which is our roadmap to turning around local government."
