New England Road landfill site issues being addressed - mayor
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Msunduzi Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla is convinced they are winning the fight against pollution and illegal dumping.

He says issues around the City's problematic New England Road landfill site are being addressed.
Out-of-control fires there and mass pollution triggered major health concerns in recent years.
The South African Human Rights Commission also took Msunduzi to court for mismanagement.

Local officials conducted an oversight visit on Thursday.
Mayor Thebolla's acknowledged there are still some issues of concern.
"What remains the challenge are the waste pickers. There are about 800 waste pickers at the New England landfill site. There have been incidents for two weeks now where people started shooting at one another.
"The reality is the majority of those who are found at our landfill site are illegal immigrants. We can confirm that."
