Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The Environmental Affairs MEC says the fire at the New England landfill in Pietermaritzburg was started by people who have been living on the site.
The inferno started burning on Friday and has been burning ever since.

MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube visited the site, on Tuesday.
She also met with city managers and fire department officials.
It's believed around 700 people have been living in makeshift homes on the site.
Dube-Ncube says the fire is also a direct result of poor management by the city.
