New Covid-19 infections rise by over 17 000, another 157 new deaths

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa stands at 1 913 861.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) said on Saturday evening that 17 958 new coronavirus cases had been recorded since its previous report.
This increase represents a 25.6% positivity rate.
Gauteng accounts for the majority of new cases with 11 303 new infections - or 63% - of new infections recorded in that province, followed by the Western Cape (10 %).
The death toll has climbed to 59 778, with 157 new deaths reported.
An increase of 449 hospital admissions has also been reported in the past 24 hours.
A total number of 2 682 710 vaccines have been administered in the country.
