New app by SAPS, Facebook aims to help find missing children

An NGO that assists in the search and recovery of missing people - says a newly launched alert system by the police, will boost efforts to locate missing children.

Dessie Rechner, who's with The Pink Ladies group, says the SAPS Amber Alert system could speed up searches for children in danger.
"I sincerely hope, and I think we are going to have a quicker recovery. I am thrilled about the launch."
The SAPS teamed up with Facebook to roll out the Amber Alert.

National police spokesperson, Brenda Muridili explains how it will work.
"Parents and guardians of missing children will report the incident to the police. Then they will have to provide the relevant information on where the child was last seen and also a recent photograph."
"Detectives will send the information to Facebook, that information will be posted on a Facebook page and anyone within the 160 kilometre radius will see that posting and be able to respond on the whereabouts of the missing child," she says.
