NERSA rejects Eskom's 19.9% tariff increase request

The National Energy Regulator of South Africa has turned down Eskom's 19.9% electricity tariff increase application for the next financial year.
Instead, it is allowing the power utility only a 5.23% increase.
Nersa made the announcement earlier today after holding public hearings across the country on the requested tariff hikes.

The regulator says 98 oral presentations were submitted, which highlighted concerns the severe impact a 19.9% increase would have, particularly on the poor and the overall economy.
