It has been exactly 22 years today since adored icon Nelson Mandela was democratically elected as South Africa's first black president.
On April 27 1994 that year, the country’s first democratic election took place, marking the beginning of the reign of an ANC-led government.
Twenty-two million South Africans, many of which were first-time voters, waited for hours to cast their ballot.
