Negligence blamed for Jagersfontein disaster

The Kopanong Local Municipality in the Free State claims that negligence played a large part in the Jagersfontein mine dam disaster.
The disaster has left more than 100 people destitute, with much of the municipal infrastructure completely destroyed.

Municipal spokesperson Solomzi Phama says the issue of negligence was raised by mayor Xolani Tseletsele previously.

"We are suspecting negligence. It is playing a pivotal role in the burst of the mine. That I can confirm with no doubt and it is a matter that the mayor has been raising since 2012."
