Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
A man has been
slapped with three life sentences after he broke into a house and raped two
teenage girls in Ndwedwe in northern KZN.
Vusimuzi Dladla was sentenced in the Verulam Regional Court on Wednesday.
The girls, aged 13 and 15 at the time, were left at home, along with three other children while their mother attended an evening church service in 2018.
Two men armed with knives came in and demanded money and cellphones from them before attacking the two older ones.
The NPA's Natasha Kara says the men fled and only the 41-year-old Dladla was arrested later.

"Dladla was sentenced to 3 terms of life imprisonment, one for each count of rape. This is even though his accomplice had committed one of the rapes, due to the prosecutor presenting case law on them acting in common purpose.
“He was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for housebreaking, with intent to rob and 15 years imprisonment for robbery, with aggravating circumstances. Further, the court deemed him unfit to possess a firearm and ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders."
