Ndwedwe hit by prolonged water outage
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Umgeni Water says it’s not sure at this stage when it will be able to get water flowing again to residents in Ndwedwe, north of Durban.
There’s been a power supply failure at one of their reservoirs.
"Now these reservoirs are in a series. Reservoir one supplies reservoir two, reservoir two supplies reservoir three and so on.
"Because of the power supply failure at reservoir one we are unable to supply water to the other reservoirs in that sequence. The power supply comes from eThekwini metro," Umgeni Water spokesperson Shami Harichunder says.

Residents have been without water since Monday.
"There is a generator at reservoir one. However, the staff of Umgeni Water cannot go to the reservoir and fill up diesel into the generator because of the possibility of attacks that they could face, given what is happening in the way of protests,” says Harichunder.
"The staff have made it quite clear that they are afraid to go in there and that is why we are unable to operate that reservoir. Now how long the situation is going to last for? We are unsure. We don't know."
