Nationwide taxi strike called off
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
A nationwide taxi strike has been called off.
Transport minister Joe Maswanganyi assures commuters, taxi drivers will not embark on a planned strike on Wednesday.
Maswanganyi and Santaco held a joint media briefing on Sunday.
It follows a "fruitful meeting" between the parties on Friday.
Maswanganyi confirms: "There will be no strike as of next week and anybody who calls a strike, that will not be in the name of Santaco."
Santaco's Boy Zondi reiterates the minister's assurance.
He says they will not strike, but "bought takkies" in case they need to take to the streets again.
Thousands of commuters were left stranded in Gauteng last month when taxi drivers unexpectedly embarked on a strike.
Highways across the province were blockaded and traffic gridlocked for hours.
