Nationwide pickets planned on Wednesday over oil, gas exploration
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
There will be nationwide pickets on Wednesday to protest oil and gas exploration on South African shores.

Activists believe the climate crisis is not being taken seriously and hope to raise awareness.
Last month, world leaders and climate warriors gathered at the COP27 summit in Egypt to discuss plans of action to combat climate change.
Durban-based environmentalist Desmond D’Sa says global corporations have come back from the conference but it's business as usual as they continue to explore for gas.
"The are responsible for all the climate change problems that are experienced by ordinary people all over the world. We continue to see this narrative of business as usual and put profit first."
He says big companies and government are rushing to drill and are holding back the move to green energy.
"Putting the necessary resources that must lead to alternative energy - what we call a gas transition and there are abundance of it. As you know in our country, there is an abundance of sun and wind. We can put up wind and solar farms.”
