The council is expected to discuss possible stricter lockdown regulations ahead of the Easter holidays.

Reports indicate that government could impose a stricker curfew and reimpose the ban on the sale of alcohol in an effort to fend off the onset of a third wave of Covid-19 infections.

There is also discussion around the size of gatherings during the Easter holidays, which is among the busiest of the year.

Churches are pushing for larger gatherings, while government is concern that it could turn into super-spreader events.

Addressing the media after a tour of the Aspen Pharmacare plant in Gqeberha, Ramaphosa confirmed that the command council is set to discuss lockdown regulations.

"Restrictions in the light of the fear that it might be a third wave and the light of the holiday we are going into, that is going to be finalised by the National Coronavirus Command Council, which means tomorrow. And we should be able to discuss this matter with our provinces.

"If we find that people are not really observing protocols and there is a fear and concern that there could be a further surge, then we will have to re-examine our position and say do we need further restrictions. But having said that, the matter will be discussed tomorrow."
