National contingency plan set for summer

The National Disaster Management Centre has activated a National Contingency Plan for the summer season.

This follows the flash floods and other weather related patterns that been experienced in KZN and Gauteng over the past few months.
The plan was activated last week and will remain in effect till April next year.

The management centre says the plan will serve as a framework to guide multidisciplinary responses to any possible extreme weather events.
In order to ensure preparedness the NDMC and the SA Weather Service will submit weekly weather forecasts in order to coordinate timely responses.
