NUMSA says its members will continue with their work stoppage until an agreement's reached on a number of issues including their demand for a 15% pay hike.

The union's Irvin Jim says they're waiting for the employer to get back to them with a new offer.

"They would have to sober up very soon. These demands are very easy demands and the strike is not the route to socialism. It's a tactic that we have, to pressurise employers as a last resort," he said.

NUMSA has rejected the 9% wage offer. Some of the buses effected by the strike in KZN include - Sizanani Mazulu Transport in Pietermaritzburg, iKhwezi Transport in Richards Bay and Greyhound.

One of the bus services affected says the national bus strike has disrupted all operations at the company until further notice.

Greyhound's Divisional Manager, Peter Ferriera, has told Newswatch that passengers who've already bought tickets for trips can get a refund or make another booking.

He says they've been inundated with calls from worried customers ahead of the long Easter weekend.

"This time of the year is really busy - there are a lot of commuters that are stranded at the moment. We have tried to help them as much as possible. We'll inform the  passengers of what's going to happen," he said.
