NAPTOSA welcomes delayed school return but still concerned
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Teacher union NAPTOSA says while it welcomes the announcement of the delayed reopening of schools however it's worried, with not much time, certain aspects have not been attended to.
Yesterday the National Basic Education Department announced that pupils would be returning to classrooms on the 15th of February.
Before that though School Management Teams will be going back to work on the 25 of January. NAPTOSA's Thirona Moodley says they are confused by the announced return of SMTs next week .
She says this only prematurely increases their exposure to COVID-19. Moodley also says as far as a plan on the delivery and rollout of safety measures and resources they have not heard anything from the Education Department on this.
"There has to be a plan or at least I can safely assume so, but we have not met with the department to understand when PPEs, sanitizers and water tanks will be delivered to those affected schools - it hasn't happened", she said.
"A planned meeting with MECs last week was postponed and we don't date yet. So right now nothing is happening at schools", Moodley said.
